As part of our Studio Foundations Back Lane West residency in October 2019, Shallal Dance Theatre was fortunate enough to work with light artist Peter Freeman, researching movement in response to Peter's immersive coloured light.

In addition to the two original shows devised by Shalall Dance Theatre and performed in 16 different venues in Cornwall, the project resulted in a rich variety of art in other mediums including film.

This comprehensive retrospective brought together the many cross-art aspects of the project including Godolphin film ‘The Duchess and the Doll’ made with film-maker Barbara Santi, with company members in acting and co-directing roles, artwork in many mediums and behind-the-scenes portrait photography by Steve Tanner.

We made artwork in lots of different mediums as a way of researching and gaining inspiration on our themes of John Passmore Edwards and Godolphin House.

The Cornish Doorways show was part of Shallal's Cornish Doorways project 2015-2018

The show was devised by Shallal Dance Theatre especially to be performed outside Godolphin House (National Trust). The house's grand portico was a gift for inspiring performance ideas, as were the ghost stories and colourful stories of the lives of people who had lived there in past centuries.

Ladders and Footprints was a show devised by Shallal Dance Theatre to be performed at Falmouth Library as part of Shallal's Cornish Doorways project 2015-2018

The show began outside, playing to delighted passing audiences and then went into the lobby making use of the grand staircase and ended with scenes in the library.
